Thornfield

Questa domenica inizia con la voglia di leggere…

che mi tira le coperte…

facendomi sentir freddo quanto basta per alzarsi…

lasciarti delle coccole dolci…

e prendere libro e matita…

…’He paused for an answer:  and what was I to say?  Oh, for some good
spirit to suggest a judicious and satisfactory response!  Vain
aspiration!  The west wind whispered in the ivy round me; but no
gentle Ariel borrowed its breath as a medium of speech:  the birds
sang in the tree-tops; but their song, however sweet, was
inarticulate.  ‘…

CHAPTER XXI

Presentiments are strange things! and so are sympathies; and so are
signs; and the three combined make one mystery to which humanity has
not yet found the key.  I never laughed at presentiments in my life,
because I have had strange ones of my own.  Sympathies, I believe,
exist (for instance, between far-distant, long-absent, wholly
estranged relatives asserting, notwithstanding their alienation, the
unity of the source to which each traces his origin) whose workings
baffle mortal comprehension.  And signs, for aught we know, may be
but the sympathies of Nature with man.

Home of the Bronte Sisters - A view down the main street in the town of Haworth, Yorkshire. Haworth was the home of the Bronte family and the place where authors Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte wrote their major works. Charlotte is known for her work Jane Eyre (1847), Emily for Wuthering Heights (1847), and Anne for The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

E mi somiglia…

decisamente…

sarà per il nome… non so…

parla di me a tratti…

e mi descrive bene…

in sentimenti e modi…

qualcosa che scritto fu per rendersi noto nel 1847…

…’ Provided with a case of pencils, and some sheets of paper, I used to
take a seat apart from them, near the window, and busy myself in
sketching fancy vignettes, representing any scene that happened
momentarily to shape itself in the ever-shifting kaleidoscope of
imagination:  a glimpse of sea between two rocks; the rising moon,
and a ship crossing its disk; a group of reeds and water-flags, and
a naiad’s head, crowned with lotus-flowers, rising out of them; an
elf sitting in a hedge-sparrow’s nest, under a wreath of hawthorn-
bloom ‘ …

Oggi capisco che raro è trovare sentimenti puri senza timore ….

senza il timore che l’altro si mostri e li mostri, così come sono…

"You must have become in some degree attached to the house,–you,
who have an eye for natural beauties, and a good deal of the organ
of Adhesiveness?"

"I am attached to it, indeed."

"It is a long way to Ireland, Janet, and I am sorry to send my
little friend on such weary travels:  but if I can’t do better, how
is it to be helped?  Are you anything akin to me, do you think,
Jane?"

I could risk no sort of answer by this time:  my heart was still.

"Because," he said, "I sometimes have a queer feeling with regard to
you–especially when you are near me, as now:  it is as if I had a
string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably
knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of
your little frame.  And if that boisterous Channel, and two hundred
miles or so of land come broad between us, I am afraid that cord of
communion will be snapt; and then I’ve a nervous notion I should
take to bleeding inwardly.  As for you,–you’d forget me."
